The HR Director of a manufacturing company refers an engineer who is considered brilliant and trusted by both colleagues and clients. He is being considered for the CEO's Executive Team but has expressed reluctance to accept the position if offered. Our work involves an examination of his resistances which turn out to be grounded on issues of self-esteem and avoidance of competition.

Family Business Advisor
The owner of a manufacturing family enterprise is overwhelmed by the many roles he has to play in his company. He heads the marketing and sales divisions and becomes over-involved in the daily operations that are the responsibilities of the plant manager. His family life is being affected and he knows the company is continuing to expand and place more demands on him. We begin work on creating a management team and clarifying his role in the company.

Maintaining the Family Legacy
The head of a family owned financial investment business calls. He is very upset that his only son wants to leave the family business to work for a competitor. Father and I (Dr. Mario Alonso) meet for me to learn about the family and the business. A strategy to deal with the problem is outlined. I meet with the son to establish a connection and agree on the next step. All three of us embark on a series of meetings where problems are identified and action plans to deal with them are generated. The son agrees to put off his decision for six months while we engage in this process. In the end, the son decides to stay in the family business.

Culture Assessment
The CEO of a small but rapidly growing company was hired from a rival company to replace the Owner/Founder. Wisely, he wants to understand the company culture before attempting to institute major structural changes. He calls to engage me as a confidential sounding board to discuss issues involving change management.

Strategy Consulting
The Owner/Founder of a construction company wrestles with the choice of expansion or keeping the size of the company and sending potential business elsewhere. We meet to discuss his Vision, what he truly wants for himself and his family. Based on our meetings, the owner and his family develop an expansion strategy that is gradual and manageable. In the process, other talented family members are included in the Shared Family Dream.

Leadership Development in Family Business
The non-family CEO of a medium size family business with over $100 million in sales calls asking for help in grooming a family member who is a Sr. VP for the position of COO. This VP is extremely skillful at planning and strategic thinking but his direct reports complain about his relationship skills. The Senior Executive team, all non-family, opposes the CEO's choice for COO. My work includes meetings with various key individuals, including the VP, resulting in an agreed upon set of behavioral goals the VP and I work on.

HR Support
The HR Director of a family business contracts Alonso Strategy Consulting to supervise the firm's internal coaches and to help in improving the company's mentoring program which includes the mentoring of various family members.

Teambuilding and Facilitation
A project manager of a large company requests help in communicating more effectively with both senior management and his own direct reports. His improvement is recognized and he is put in charge of an important new project. The focus of our work shifts to selection and development of his new management team. We engage in ongoing strategic and operational teambuilding and facilitation.
